Dunn and Bradstreet Number Needed!
Standard Industrial Classification Code (SIC)
SIC Code: 9511
The Federal government requires all recipients of a Presidential disaster declarations to have a Dunn and Bradstreet number (also known as DUNS number or D&B number). You may ask what does this mean for my entity? The answer is simple, any applicant (county, towns, cities, townships, and any eligible private-non-profit organization) that may receive federal funds as a result of disasters will need to apply for a DUNS number before FEMA will deem your entity an eligible applicant, Many entities have a DUNS number but are unsure where to find it. This can be accomplished with a phone call to Dun and Bradstreet to verify if your entity already has a number or register your entity and obtain a number.
Many townships share the same name, so it is important to ensure the address associated with the DUNS number is one in your township.
It is encouraged all Towns and Townships register now if they do not already have a DUNS number. There is no cost associated with obtaining a DUNS number and the DUNS number never changes. Without registering now for a DUNS number, it will slow down the process later if you are asking FEMA assistance as a result of a Presidential disaster declaration. It is also important to note that there is no need to apply for a new DUNS number if your entity has previously registered and received a DUNS number. The phone number to Dunn and Bradstreet is 1-844-233-4416 or you may search for your number or apply via the Internet at the following website: http://www.dnb.com/dunsnumber/lookup.html
If you have any questions regarding why you need a DUNS number or have questions about disaster declarations, please feel free to contact a Public Assistance Coordinator.
